If you want the official press release about where OmniWeb is, instead of just my word, it's here: )Īlso, the source already is mostly available. Was there something more you wanted clarified? (I should mention that I'm not an official spokesperson for the company. I want Omni to clearly state what their interest in OmniWeb is and if it is low enough they should consider opening up the source of the non-rendering-engine parts of the browser (since that is covered by webkit).

I always thought of it as a pro browser and there is a place for it. Greg, build a nice email app, a calendaring/project manager app and some modern workgroup synchronization features and sell Omniweb with the bundle. Omniweb was a work of art but unfortunately the browser game is all about market share and not sales. iCab was great for old machines but had plugin issues for me and never was as fast as it should have been. Opera is nice, but the Mac build is inferior to the Windows build and to Safari.

No keychain support in Firefox, plus I find Safari lighter weight. Camino just never got the interface right and was slower that Safari at the time. I tried Chrome for about a month, and just got sick of not having ClicktoFlash, and the shitty download manager was annoying. I would still be using it if Omni maintained it.

Omniweb is the only browser that I switched away from because it just wasn't getting the love it needed. When a new browser is released I will always make it my default browser and try to use it until I have to go back to Safari because something is clearly inferior. Safari came out and became my browser of choice. I remember IE 4 was amazing, as was IE 5 because it actually had features to differentiate it, like sidebar page tab and other things.

You all are feeding it a poison pill and a slow one at that.ĭoes Omni really have any long term plans for OmniWeb at all?įor the last 15 years I've been trying browsers on my Mac always looking for what is best. So yes while you guys are not killing the app all together. Which will then give Omni reason to kill the app entirely. As OmniWeb stagnates more and more of those users will move to other browsers. That being said, we don't want to leave OmniWeb users in the lurch, which is why OW is now free, and why we still keep the app available and do continue to make some updates.īut that is the only reason OmniWeb is getting the little attention that it is to possibly placate those users who paid for OmniWeb. But it's true, OmniWeb is not a high priority - there just isn't much significant return on time invested with that app, because we're competing against free alternatives like Safari.

We actually have more people working on Mac apps than on iOS apps still (or at least _as_ many, it can be hard to count when some code applies to both, and coders and QA people move around between projects).
